It’s awards season spring, which means celebrities are sauntering down the red carpet rocking, essentially, a mosquito net and a prayer at a major awards show. Laverne Cox, star of Inventing Anna, attended the 2022 Grammys wearing a John Galliano look—not quite a dress, slightly more than lingerie. Her outfit looks like she was doing a boudoir photoshoot and thought, “Why not show this hotness to the world?”

The look is giving Sexy Widow. It’s giving Black Swan. It’s giving the Broadway musical Chicago. Laverne Cox as Velma Kelly on Broadway when? Pamela Anderson is currently starring in Chicago on Broadway—she and Cox would make excellent costars. On Grammy night, Cox won’t be performing live, but she is helping to host the red carpet.

Cox’s sheer, gauzy coverlet over a matching bra and panty set is daring. But she’s far from alone in her risqué fashion, even early in the evening as celebs begin to trickle onto the red carpet. Doja Cat is wearing a corseted leotard-style bodice with a sheer column skirt. Model Jasmine Sanders is wearing sheer black lace with strategically placed pink butterflies. And as more limousines pull up to the Vegas theater where the awards ceremony is being held, we are guaranteed to see more body parts, vaguely encased behind netting and tulle.

Cox complimented her black gown with a playful hibiscus-shade of hair. Nail artist Eri Ishizu used the shade MG from Olive & June, then decked Cox’s nails in Swarovski crystals. The overall effect is a mix of elegant and playful—like a little girl who loved playing dress-up grew up to have an adult budget.
