Remember when you used to spend hours prepping and primping for an event? Making sure every last curl was in place? While it can be fun to get ready for an event, we’re finding that clients are looking for easier, surefire ways to get a stellar style in less time. With destination weddings, more wedding guests are doing their own hair and need quick and easy styles in a snap. Enter: the half-up hairstyle. See how to get the look below!
The Look: The Half-Up Hairstyle
The reason this look has become so popular is because of the instant ability to look glamorous and be easily achieved on second-day strands — a win-win if the event in question is a weekend affair.
The Steps:
Step 1. You can either work with your natural texture or prep hair by blow-drying smooth or adding undone waves with a curling iron. When blow-drying, prep hair with Redken Big Blowout to add heat protection and effortless volume to create a foundation that will last all day and night!
Step 2. Next, prep hair with a dry shampoo or texturizing spray to add a bit of grit, hold and volume throughout. We love Redken Deep Clean Dry Shampoo to refresh hair and add a clean feel.
Step 3. Section out the mohawk area and tease (using your fingers, a brush or comb) the crown of the head.
Step 4. If working with natural texture use your fingers, or a finishing brush on smooth hair to comb hair back up into a half ponytail and secure with an elastic.
Step 5. From here you can pull out a few face-framing pieces or add an accessory like a barrette or scarf to your half-up style.
Step 6. Finish with hold and a touch of shine! Spritz strands with Redken Shine Flash to enhance your texture and give the look a glowing finish. Then layer Redken Fashion Work 12 to hold the style in place with a flexible feel.
