Feeling fussy, walkin’ in my Balenci-ussy’s…or in this case, Jean Paul Gaultier.

Lizzo hit the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards red carpet in a billowing navy gown, giving major main character vibes. The singer’s dress, a striking midnight blue, matches both her sheer opera gloves (complete with acrylic tips, naturally) and her dark lipstick. Her couture gown, constructed by mastermind Glenn Martens, is part of a celebrity-loved collection with fans like Chloë Sevigny and Jada Pinkett Smith

Clearly, Lizzo is princess of darkness we never knew we needed.

Looks great. But am I the only one who’s a little disappointed she didn’t reuse her “fake boobs/fake ass” leotard? She’s a shape-wear maker after all. Either way, the look won’t be the last head-turning fashion we’ll see from Lizzo tonight—the singer is slated to perform during the ceremony.

Thanks to “About Damn Time,” she’s up for Artist Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Best Pop and Video For Good. She faces major competition from “As It Was” singer Harry Styles, but the two are hardly rivals. On July 26, Lizzo posted a TikTok holding a huge, gorgeous arrangement of flowers, with pink, orange, and red roses and chrysanthemums galore. In the caption, complete with seven long-tear emojis, the singer revealed that the flowers were sent as a gift from Styles. “Yall harry got me flowers congratulating me on about damn time going #1 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭,” she wrote on TikTok. “Thanks for the flowers, Harry!” she says in the short clip, before leaning forward to smell the bouquet with a smile.

Styles and Lizzo have been close friends for a few years now, ever since Harry went viral for covering Lizzo’s smash hit “Juice” during his BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge set back in 2019. Earlier this year the two shared a stage when Styles brought Lizzo out as a guest performer during his Coachella 2022 headlining set. Wearing matching feathered Gucci coats, the two singers brought the house down while performing a cover of Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” and a funky remix of One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful.”
