The luxury French fashion house unveils its new women’s collection inspired by the map archives of Paris.

Of all species that tune into nature, it is women who share the most privileged connection: a sentiment that spurs Maria Grazia Chiuri to create a Ready-To-Wear collection that explores the vital force of nature and a woman’s place within it. For the Spring-Summer 2023 season, Dior picks apart the distinctions between original and copy, nature and imitation, to create a lineage of pieces that evoke creative imagination whilst holding up a mirror to the current social milieu. Much how a woman can innately escape from tumultuous realities through their mind, it is fashion that enables the, to form awareness of themselves and their place within the world.

For the show, Grazia Chiuri adopted the image of a map of Paris from Dior’s archives, printing it in varying forms across long Mazi dresses and structured overcoats. Paying homage to fashion as an art of invention, the maps demonstrate how Dior has seen countless redefinitions of the city of Paris — capturing them all in a physical form that will traverse time.

In keeping with its nature-inspired origins, the collection comes washed in neutral earthy palettes, ranging from charcoal black to a spectrum of beige and cream hues. Touching upon the consistently evolving vision of the divine feminine, the collection juxtaposes cinched corsets and large hoop skirts with oversized trench coats and boxy dungarees — again echoing how women have adapted and transformed throughout Paris’ reimagining. Expressing the cultural complexity of our era, the map motif that runs throughout the capsule celebrates the power of women — who navigate it, challenge it and prevail within it daily.
