A muse. A businesswoman. A wall-to-wall trailblazer. For Dolce & Gabbana’s latest Spring Summer ’23 womenswear collection, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana recruited none other than the inimitable cultural force, Ms. Kim Kardashian. Layered with the house’s consequential DNA, the emblematic pair revisited their 90’s and 00s archives, prompting a fortifying nostalgia. Allegedly sparked by Kourtney Kardashians infamous Portofino wedding, with pieces from past and present lines, the event unintentionally became a Dolce & Gabbana impromptu show – sparking the urge to delve head first into the label’s historical archives.
With their creativity so profoundly rooted in their identity, Dolce & Gabbana carved out a safe space for Kim to perceive her own life and capture her era’s bold aesthetics through a fashion lens, prompting somewhat of a dream come true for both parties. Claiming the role as the collection’s leading curators, Domenico, Stefano, and Kim awakens the vision of the modern woman, breathing life and exalting femininity in all of its forms and expressions.
The “Ciao, Kim” line is one that transcends time and space. As garments are reconsidered, repurposed, and imbued with the eyes of the present and consciousness of the past, it retains significance in its genuine nature while still acknowledging many generations. Just as Andy Warhol filmed himself eating a hamburger back in the early 80s, an evocative backdrop project of Kim eating spaghetti in slow motion as models paraded revitalized looks.
Fueled by their universal and inclusive language that echoes the voice of global appeal and intrapersonal aspirations, it is assumed that, of course, the show would be widely perceived and attended. Celebrity guests included Sita Abellan, Alessandra Ambrosio, Pierre – Emerick Aubameyang, Alysha Aubameyang, Bianca Balti, Monica Bellucci, Chau Bui, Helena Christensen, Brahim Diaz, Pelayo Diaz, Ashley Graham, Eva Herzigova, Kris Jenner, Khole Kardashian, Michele Morrone, Sabrina Sato, James Teeradon Supapunpinyo, Supassara Thanachat, Chicago West, Psalm West, North West, and Saint West.
