Jennifer Coolidge and her on-screen alter ego Tanya McQuoid may not have a lot in common IRL (unless Coolidge is secretly an heiress with a travel bug and an unreliable husband), but when it comes to style, they’re both over-the-top in the best way.
At the 2023 Golden Globe Awards, Coolidge proved as much when she hit the red carpet at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles wearing a glittering, off-the-shoulder black gown. In true diva fashion, she paired the look with voluminous blowout and a vampy smoky eye.
Coolidge, who won an Emmy for her role as Tanya in season one of The White Lotus, reprised her role for season two. Her performance in the second season of Mike White’s HBO Max hit earned her a nomination at tonight’s awards for best actress in a supporting role in a limited series, anthology series, or motion picture made for TV. Her season two co-star, Aubrey Plaza, as well as Claire Danes (Fleishman Is in Trouble), Niecy Nash-Betts (Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story), and Daisy Edgar-Jones (Under the Banner of Heaven) were also nominated in the category.
The 61-year-old actor recently opened up to BFF Ariana Grande about her recent “renaissance” of sorts, for which she credits Grande. “I think it really started with you asking me to be in the ‘Thank u, next’ video,” Coolidge told Grande when the latter interviewed her for an the Entertainer of the Year issue of Entertainment Weekly. “I mean, from there I got Promising Young Woman, and this whole thing. You were sort of the instigator. I really believe that. I think if you hadn’t put me in ‘Thank u, next,’ and done that imitation, I don’t think I would be here where I am.”
