Investing in coats and jackets is never a bad idea, especially if you’re looking to grow your collection beyond the essentials. I love collecting quality jackets and coats that I can instantly pair with anything in my closet and give my outfits that extra oomph it needs. As I was browsing through Old Navy’s selection of cute and affordable options, I came across the Double-Breasted Tie-Belt Trench Coat ($90), which immediately caught my eye. I chose the navy color in a size XS since I don’t have anything like that. Trench coats are a wardrobe staple, especially if you want something that can spruce up your outfit, and ever since the Double-Breasted Tie-Belt Trench Coat was delivered, I haven’t been able to wear anything else.

What I Like About the Old Navy Double-Breasted Tie-Belt Trench Coat

For starters, this trench coat has a lightweight yet insulated feel; it’s like wearing a long blazer, but this keeps you feeling warm yet breezy. It has a comfortable soft texture that’s stretchy and flexible, unlike other trench coats on the market with structured, stiff feels. I love that this is a lighter coat lending itself to layering on top of chunky sweater, bodysuits, and tanks alike. This trench coat is definitely a versatile piece that you can easily pair with dressier items and casual picks.

Although it has a casual feel, the trench coat has a tailored look with its collar and notched lapel, adjustable button-tab cuffs at the wrists, and tie belt. The double-breasted trench coat has two functional buttons on the outside and the tie belt, which you can leave open for a fresh and airy wear or closed and bundled up for a cinched and flattering look. It has two extra buttons on the inside of the coat, providing a secure wear, which comes in handy when I’m wearing a chunky scarf or the wind is a little too strong. To top it all off, the trench coat has deep enough pockets that fit my wallet, keys, phone, lip gloss or balm, and AirPods.

What’s Worth Noting About the Old Navy Double-Breasted Tie-Belt Trench Coat

This trench coat is great for layering and keeps me warm, however, it’s not ideal for winter storms or temperatures of 40°F or below. If you’re wearing this in colder temperatures, dress accordingly in a sweater or a cardigan, or wear a long-sleeved dress or a skirt with tights underneath. The coat is also not water resistant, but it can handle a rainy day with an umbrella and proper rain boots. If you’re looking for something that can handle heavier showers, Old Navy has a water-resistant trench coat that’s also an editor favorite; read the review of the Water-Resistant Tie-Belt Trench Coat here.

The Double-Breasted Tie-Belt Trench Coat is pretty long, and as someone who’s 5’1″, it hits right below my knee at the middle of my shins. If you’re in the market for something shorter, there are plenty of other jackets and coats from Old Navy that I’m eyeing. It has a relaxed fit, so order true to size. You can use the tie belt to give it a more fitted, tailored look.

Who the Old Navy Double-Breasted Tie-Belt Trench Coat Is Best For

The Double-Breasted Tie-Belt Trench Coat is great for anyone looking for a quality trench coat that’s a wardrobe staple. It complements both dresses and fancier outfits and elevates casual looks, from sweaters and boots to T-shirts and jeans. Plus, you can wear it all year round, if needed. It’s lightweight yet warm enough to layer on top during brisk temperatures, whether it’s spring or fall.

Is the Old Navy Double-Breasted Tie-Belt Trench Coat Worth the Splurge?

A quality trench coat that will last a long time and, of course, doesn’t compromise on style is hard to find and could cost a pretty penny. Old Navy’s Double-Breasted Tie-Belt Trench Coat is a truly timeless piece, and it’s under $100. It looks designer, with a comfortable and chic fit, but costs a fraction of the price.
