Yeoh, also an accomplished martial artist, has been in big movies for years, notably Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. But EEAAO presented her with a special opportunity to show multiple sides of herself in a film, and she was moved by the (Oscar-nominated) script the moment she read it.

“This is something I’ve been waiting for for a long time that’s going to give me the opportunity to show my fans, my family, my audience what I’m capable of,” she said in a 2022 interview with GQ. “To be funny. To be real. To be sad. Finally, somebody understood that I can do all these things.” EEAAO is a frontrunner in most of the main categories, including best picture, and is the most-nominated flick of the year.
And this year’s awards season has also given Yeoh a chance to show off different parts of her style. At the Critics Circle Awards, the Crazy Rich Asians star wore a voluminous black tulle trench coat from Alexander McQueen’s spring-summer 2023 collection, accessorized with jade earrings and matching nails.
