Catherine Zeta-Jones wore a vintage look from someone you wouldn’t expect.
While on vacation in Portofino, Italy with her husband Michael Douglas (ATTENZIONE, PICKPOCKET!), the Oscar-winning actor wore a deep purple Emanuel Ungaro gown previously worn by none other than pop star Jessica Simpson at the VH1 Big in ’05 Awards in 2005.

According to Us, the garment was considered a “revenge dress” when Simpson wore it, as she was freshly divorced from Nick Lachey, but to us it just looks like a pretty—if busy—mermaidcore dress. Now a mom of three and author of the best-selling memoir Open Book, Jessica Simpson was, once upon a time, kind of a boss in the mid-price shopping world. We don’t talk about it much, but she was low-key queen of the mall. She had (and still has) a line of hair extensions (including clip-in bangs), had (and still has) a line of shoes and apparel, and briefly had (but no longer has due to lawsuits and it being a crazy idea) a collection of edible body products. If Catherine Zeta-Jones would use even one of these items we would be oh so thrilled. Personally, I’d like to think that even though it doesn’t show up in the pictures, the Oscar-winner is doused in one of Simpson’s “Fancy” perfumes.
In addition to turning out looks of her own, Zeta-Jones is helping her daughter, Carys, become a fashion girlie in her own right. Both mom and daughter wore Elie Saab to the Cannes premiere of Jeanne du Barry, and while Carys’ gown was revealing, it was still youthful. The budding musician also got to watch her father receive a Lifetime Achievement Palme D’Or. Not bad for a family vacation. But when does she get to raid her mom’s closet for more Y2K fits?
