Janelle Monáe attended the 2023 Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards held at Claridge’s Hotel in London on Tuesday (November 7), where the Grammy-nominated singer said that she was honoured to receive the Musician Award as a non-binary person.
The singer has spoken candidly about her non-binary identity after announcing she uses, she/her and they/them pronouns.
We know two things about Janelle’s style.
She loves black and white red carpet looks, and that she has been veering away from the tuxedos, quirky and theatrical ensembles (last seen during her 2022 Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ promo tour), for looks with the focus on sensuality.
Janelle certainly hit those high sensual notes wearing this stunning velvet peplum gown from Harris Reed’s Spring 2024 collection.
Am I sad that the drapery we saw in the look book was replaced?
Had I seen this on the red carpet on Monday, I may have said yes.
But after seeing Serena Williams’ CFDA Fashion Awards gown on Tuesday, I believe that with Janelle being 5ft tall (1.52m), the modification/customisation made perfect sense and worked in the favour.
