When it comes to Zendaya’s Met Gala dress fitting, the 27-year-old actor is cutting it pretty close to the big night—so close, in fact, that her longtime stylist Law Roach says her dress hasn’t even been made yet.
ICYMI: Zendaya is one of the co-chairs of the 2024 Met Gala, which is only four days away on May 6. “I haven’t seen Zendaya’s dress!” Roach told The New York Times during an interview published on May 2. “We’ve been on two press tours—Dune 2 and Challengers—and doing two Vogue covers. The dress isn’t even made. They won’t fit until Saturday.” Saturday, of course, is just two days ahead of the Met Gala.
To be fair, Roach and Zendaya have basically been serving Met Gala-worthy looks since February…at least, if this year’s theme had anything to do with science fiction or tennis. Tell me you couldn’t picture Zendaya arriving at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the 1995 Thierry Mugler robot suit she wore to the world premiere of Dune: Part Two on February 15. How about the custom Thom Brown pleated tennis dress she wore to Challengers’ UK premiere? (London really got all her best looks, huh?)
This year’s dress code is “The Garden of Time,” which may offer up another explanation for why the actor’s team is waiting until the last minute for Zendaya’s Met Gala dress fitting. Could her latest ball-gown be made up of fresh flowers, or would that be too Project Runway? After all, this year mark’s Zendaya’s return to the Met Gala after a five-year break, and she and Roach have to do something to live up to all the (completely warranted) hype.
