The red carpet at the 2024 BET Awards was full of hits and misses, as celebrities showcased a mix of daring designs, following Taraji P. Henson, Colman Domingo and Tyla.
Andra Day’s was a notable disappointment on the night, as this ABODI caged design failed to impress, marking a major step back in her fashion journey. I’m officially giving up hope.
Following America Ferrera at the People’s Choice Awards, Storm Reid at the Met Gala and now Akira Akbar, I’m yet to be excited about these bow accented skirts from the Coach Fall 2024 collection, or the way they have been styled. The charm remains elusive.
Angela White, also known as Blac Chyna, donned a white draped dress with a wet-look effect, reminiscent of Doja Cat’s Vetements dress from the Met Gala. I would have been on board had it not been for the points.
Chloe Bailey brought drama wearing an unmistakably recognisable cut-out sequin dress by Mônot.
Coco Jones exuded a sultry mood in a slinky Retrofête cut-out halter gown, prior to her performance later in the evening.
I’m sure Halle Bailey was grateful for the open back of her Avellano leather gown. Alexis Bittar earrings completed her look.
Ice Spice opted for a vintage Versace dress, but the overall impact was marred by her Ronald McDonald-esque hair.
Niecy Nash-Betts chose a coordinated look that, while vibrant, didn’t quite match the heights of her previous outings this awards season.
Summer Walker was one of the best dressed on the night with her bow-front mini dress.
Country Singer- songwriter Tanner Adell wore white and matte silver organza jacquard, sculptural volant gown with Chantilly lace bodice and off-the-shoulder drape from Bach Mai’s debut collection. And if you weren’t sure of her country roots, she rocked a cowboy hat.
For those seeking sophistication, Tia Mowry’s Akris gown was the epitome of that.
In stark contrast, Tinashe’s custom design by Guvanch seemed chaotic and disorganized, perhaps aiming to mirror the apoptotic fashion trends we have seen on the red carpet this year, but ultimately missing the mark.
Victoria Monét’s look was a nostalgic nod to the past, blending ‘80s and ‘90s pop and rock influences into a vintage-inspired design.
