Jenna Ortega attended the ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ fan event in Naucalpan de Juarez, Mexico following the photocall on Wednesday evening.
As I predicted, Jenna has been sidestepping her usual all-black ensembles, yet she continues to operate within the realm of soft goth and gothic romance. This time, she did so in a stunning teal green custom Lurline dress that was anything but predictable.
You might be wondering what makes this dress gothic aside from the dark colour. The answer lies in the details—specifically, the signature moulded ‘skull’ corset that anchors the design. The corset, a hallmark of the Saudi Arabian label Lurline, was first showcased by designers Sarah and Siham Albinali in their fifth collection (worn by Rebecca Ferguson for the ‘Dune 2’ photocall), but Jenna’s version, created in collaboration with her stylist Enrique Melendez, took the concept to an entirely new level.
Inspired by the ‘Bob the shrunken head’ character from the original ‘Beetlejuice’, the corset features three leather moulded shrunken heads, complete with stitched mouth detailing across the skirt. It’s a hauntingly beautiful nod to the macabre elements of the film, while also paying tribute to the meticulous craftsmanship and creativity of the Albinali sisters. The fact that Melendez and Lurline worked together to bring this vision to life speaks volumes about the level of thought and detail that goes into the creative process.
For me, it’s these finer details that truly elevate the outfit from a simple themed ensemble to a work of art. It’s not just about looking good—it’s about telling a story, and Jenna’s dress does exactly that. Every stitch, every moulded leather piece, adds depth to the narrative she’s creating with her wardrobe on this press tour.
What makes this look even more impressive is how it could have so easily veered into the realm of predictability. After all, Ortega has been synonymous with gothic fashion since her role in ‘Wednesday’. But instead of resting on her laurels, she and her team have crafted a wardrobe that is not only on-theme but also fun, stylish, and brimming with creativity.
In an era where red carpet fashion can often feel repetitive, Jenna’s approach is a breath of fresh air. She’s showing us that it’s possible to stay true to an aesthetic while also evolving and surprising your audience. This teal green Lurline dress is just the latest example of that—a gothic romance that’s both darkly enchanting and irresistibly modern.
So, what more could you ask for? Jenna is proving that she’s not just following the gothic fashion playbook—she’s rewriting it.
