Lady Gaga made a striking appearance at the Venice Film Festival photocall for ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ held at Palazzo del Casino, but the moment that truly caught everyone’s attention wasn’t just her outfit—it was her identity.
During the press conference, her co-star Joaquin Phoenix paused mid-response to a journalist’s question to ask how she preferred to be addressed: “Gaga or Stefani?” Her reply was simple, “Stefani,” but it spoke volumes.
This moment perfectly encapsulates the duality we’ve come to know in Lady Gaga—the boundary-pushing entertainer versus the serious actress. Her outfit, a velvet fit-and-flare long sleeve square-neck dress, felt very much in tune with her “Stefani” persona. The understated elegance of the dress, paired with Tiffany Victoria® earrings in platinum with diamonds, screamed sophistication and refinement. This was a look that was grounded, classic, and distinctly different from the avant-garde fashion statements Gaga is known for.
However, it’s easy to see why Joaquin might have been a little confused. The addition of towering Louboutin platforms and bleached eyebrows injected that unmistakable “Gaga” energy into the look. These elements added an edgy twist, reminding us that even when she’s channelling Stefani, Lady Gaga’s signature flair is never far behind.
It’s been reported that this press tour won’t feature “method dressing,” which Gaga has been known for in the past. This makes the upcoming events even more intriguing—will we see more of Stefani’s understated elegance, or will Gaga’s boldness shine through? Either way, I’m excited to see how her stylists balance these two facets of her identity throughout the press tour.
