Wicked fans, assemble. The time has come: the Wicked movie is dropping in theaters today, November 22.

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo won our hearts and minds with their red carpet looks, adorable press tour moments, and our first look at their performances as Glinda and Elphaba, respectively. We can’t wait to see them do the beloved stage show justice.

But be warned: the film only covers the first half of the Broadway show’s story (despite having the same runtime). We will be treated to a Wicked part 2 at a later date.

Why was Wicked split into two parts? Well, director Jon M. Chu and producer Marc Platt have said it was because they didn’t want to cut songs or characters to fit the story into one movie. So, a little bit like the Broadway musical, the movie will be split into two halves. We’ll just have to wait a little bit longer before we can host that back-to-back viewing party.

Here’s everything we know so far about Wicked part 2.

When will Wicked Part 2 be released?

Sadly, we’ll have to wait a whole year until chapter two of the Wicked movie drops. The release date is currently scheduled for November 2025.

Who is in the Wicked Part 2 cast?

The second movie has already been filmed, so the cast we know and love from part one will be returning, including Cynthia Erivo (Elphaba), Ariana Grande (Glinda), Michelle Yeoh (Madame Morrible), Jeff Goldblum (The Wizard of Oz), Jonathan Bailey (Fiyero), Ethan Slater (Boq), Marissa Bode (Nessarose), Peter Dinklage (voice of Doctor Dillamond), Bowen Yang, and Bronwyn James.

We’ll update this article in the event of any new casting announcements for Wicked part 2.

What happens in Wicked part 2?

At the moment, we’re basing our plot predictions for Wicked part 2 on what happens in the second act of the stage show. It doesn’t look like there will be any new characters introduced, but you never know how the Wicked movie universe might expand the story. Maybe we’ll get to see more of Dorothy, who features very briefly in the Wicked plotline, or maybe not.
