Ellie Bamber attended the 2024 British Independent Film Awards at The Roundhouse on Sunday in London, serving up her second Prada look in a row.
Her yellow and gold lamé brocade ball gown, with contrasting black passementerie details and a delicate bow at the back, paid homage to the Prada Spring/Summer 2003 collection. It’s undeniably beautiful. However, when compared to Ellie’s gown from The Fashion Awards or Kerry Washington’s breathtaking Prada moment last week, it feels like this look falls just short of Prada’s full potential.
We know what Prada can do. We’ve seen the craftsmanship, the finesse, and the transformative power of their designs, and this dress—while lovely—needed that extra touch. The length of the skirt is where it falters. The margin is so fine. Just an inch less, and this gown could have achieved the desired silhouette.
The length feels slightly off, impairing the shape of the skirt. It’s the kind of adjustment that makes all the difference, especially for a design so rooted in precise proportions. The skirt needed to hover just above the shoes, just above the carpet, for the full effect to come to life.
It’s a shame because Ellie wears this Prada creation beautifully, but it is held back by that single detail.
We set the bar so high for Prada, that anything less than perfection is like a disappointment, however, I can’t fault the hair and makeup.
