Elle Fanning Wore Valentino To The 2025 National Board Of Review Gala

Awards season is officially in full swing, and Elle Fanning is serving look after look. Fresh off her Golden Globes moment, the actress returned to the red carpet for the 2025 National Board of Review Gala, where she continued her love affair with retro-inspired fashion.

Considering her role as Sylvie Russo in A Complete Unknown, set in New York City’s influential 1960s music scene, Alessandro Michele’s vision for Valentino couldn’t be a better match for this press tour. Elle’s lilac, pink and yellow chiffon tiered dress not only channels the era but also feels perfectly in tune with her ethereal aesthetic.

However, it’s the styling that takes this look to another level. The addition of a faux fur-trimmed stole instantly amplifies the vintage vibes, creating an Old Hollywood glamour moment worthy of the silver screen. Her hair and makeup—soft yet striking—further embody the retro fantasy, with every detail working in harmony to complete the vision.

As always, my girl leaves me in awe. This dress could have easily read “costumey,” but Elle wears it like it was custom-made for her. The subtle contrast of colours, the romantic tiers, and that dreamy stole feel quintessentially Elle.

This was a retro-glam treat.
