Blake Lively is back on the red carpet, and with Another Simple Favor making its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas.
Over the years, I’ve been a huge fan of Blake’s style. She pioneered method dressing before it was a thing and mastered the art of a multi-look press junket—who could forget her A Simple Favor suit parade? But as much as I love a theme, some choices demand a double take. Case in point: this latex ensemble by Renee Masoomian.
Wearing a full latex dress and coat when it’s 80 degrees outside? Bold. But there’s a method to this madness. According to the designer’s Instagram, the latex wedding dress worn by Blake’s character Emily Nelson in the film was also designed by Masoomian, as confirmed by the films costume designer Renée Kalfus. So, in true Blake fashion, she’s leaning all the way into a theme of the film.
Context aside, I still can’t get on board. The styling throws me off—the hair feels dated, the shoes are a mismatch, and from what I saw in videos, the dress was constantly sticking to her legs. Not ideal in the Texas heat.

For a look that was clearly well thought out, it didn’t quite take everything into account. And if this signals a latex-heavy press tour? Well… I’m already sweating.
