Mikey Madison attends the 97th Annual Oscars

When it comes to Dior and the Oscars, there’s usually an air of expectation. Classic, elegant, and timeless—these are the descriptors we associate with the house. But alongside Monica Barbaro’s already heartbreaking Dior moment, Maria Grazia Chiuri dressed three more celebrities tonight, and let’s just say… the results were not Dior’s finest hour.

Reproduction Era

Mikey Madison is still in her vintage (inspired) era, and while I usually appreciate a throwback moment, this just isn’t hitting the way it should. She wore the Dior Bal à Paris 1956 Spring-Summer Haute Couture dress in pink satin with black velvet edging, originally designed by Monsieur Christian Dior himself but reproduced by the Dior Couture Atelier for this occasion. It’s a beautiful idea on paper—honouring the heritage of the house—but in execution, something is missing and the look from the waist down needed more finesse. I have a feeling that on a night of a thousand gowns, this one won’t stick in my memory past tomorrow.

Groundhog Day

Rachel Zegler, Dior, and this light grey hue have become something of a trio—and not in a good way. This is déjà vu in the more boring sense. I feel like I’ve seen her in a variation of this dress at every major event, and I desperately need her and this colour to take a break. We need a fresh perspective. She has an entire Snow White press tour ahead of her, and if this is a preview, I’m officially worried.

Missing a Steam

Julianne Hough stepped onto the Oscars red carpet in a Dior Spring 2025 tulle dress, and my first thought? It needed a steam. All over. The crinkled effect made it look like it had been pulled straight from a suitcase.

And just like that, Dior goes 0 for 4. A rare miss for a brand that usually delivers at least one breathtaking moment.
