Nicole Kidman made her way to Austin, Texas, for the Holland premiere at the SXSW Film Festival, swapping out her recent masculine Saint Laurent suiting in favour of a hyper-feminine aesthetic. Given that she plays a “trad wife” in the film, the choice makes perfect sense—perhaps even shedding light on her previous ultra-feminine appearance at the TIME 2025 Women of the Year Gala.
And if we’re going for old-school femininity, why not go archival? Nicole dipped into the Karl Lagerfeld-era Fendi vault, selecting a silk dress from the brand’s Spring 2008 collection. The design, featuring suede inserts forming circles inspired by the number eight, is an interesting, cerebral detail that adds depth to an otherwise delicate piece.
Some might notice that the tulle underlayer seen on the runway is missing. I completely understand why it was omitted—especially considering how her last look veered into too twee territory. This adjustment allowed the dress to feel more streamlined and mature.

However, I can’t shake the feeling that the white silk portion of the skirt is throwing the balance off. It’s one of those things that I want to love, but something about the contrast disrupts the flow of the design. A minor nitpick, but it keeps me from being completely enamored.
A black bow accenting her ponytail and Messika jewels rounded out the look. It’s elegant, it’s refined, but it stops just short of being a total knockout for me.
