You can always count on Katy Perry to boldly go where few red carpet regulars dare—and at the 2025 Breakthrough Prize Ceremony, she proved once again that no one does sci-fi chic quite like her.
Dressed in a silver sequinned Gaurav Gupta Spring 2024 Couture gown—hood included, naturally—Katy leaned into the intergalactic glamour we’ve come to expect. Think space odyssey meets old Hollywood, with a dash of avant-garde sparkle.
Now, let’s talk details. The dress was meant to create a sultry illusion with cleverly placed cut-outs and sheer tulle panels, but unfortunately, the execution didn’t quite land on planet flawless. The illusion tulle was either too baggy or just not a perfect match for her skin tone, which diluted the intended effect. It’s a shame, because the concept was stellar.
Some might be more bothered by this veering into costume territory, but you have to admit that she stayed true to her dramatic roots, giving a wink to the cosmos.
