Because where else would you find a saxophone, a helmet, and a cat, under the same roof?
Centred around the dress code Tailored for you, last night’s annual Met Gala sewed together a love letter to all things garment construction, and dandyism. Indeed, there was an abundance of modernised spins on suits, some of which probably (read: definitely) could have done with a more thorough research on the exhibition, before splashing a corset on top of a blazer – but overall, Hollywood’s names-to-know brushed up well. And with every good suit, there must be an equally alluring tie, to *tie* things together (sorry, we had to), what would our Met Gala darlings be without a good old accessory!
Despite Hollywood’s aversion to wearing an accessory at red carpets, the group didn’t shy away from donning one or two this year: bags, hats, canes, umbrellas, necklaces, and more, all came bouncing down the museum’s steps. For those of you whose heads are currently swirling in a pool of blue carpets and swanky blazers, these are our favourite accessories that we found burrowed within the swarm of celebrity’s dandy-themed outfits:
Doechii’s Louis Vuitton face tattoo

The rap-diva left no stone unturned with her LV look last night, and the face card was no exception. Branding herself head-to-toe in Louis Vuitton, Doechii’s cheek got its own monogrammed moment.
Jon Batiste’s saxophone

Raindrops on roses, whiskers on kittens, and, Jon Batiste’s Met Gala saxophone performance – these are a few of our favourite things. The Singer brought out his sax onto the carpet, setting the tone for a groove-infused night, performing ‘My Favourite Things’ from The Sound of Music, amongst other songs.
Clairo’s cat

If she couldn’t get more adorable, Clairo (real name Claire Elizabeth Cottrill), brought a cat to accompany her Valentino look: not quite a real cat, but a cat that doubles as a clutch. Posing with her new companion throughout the night, Clairo’s cat made for the perfect, pastel-washed partner, to balance out her custom Valentino look. Alessandro Michele and Clairo is the kitschy collaboration we never knew we needed, but it works so well.
Damson Idris’ racing helmet

Channelling his inner F1 racer, Damson Idris, the British actor fuelling up to star in the upcoming blockbuster ‘F1’, geared up at The Met Gala. Beginning his night in a blingy helmet and slinky racing suit, Idris then held out his arms for two aides to rip his number off, flaunting a deep red three piece suit.
Lorde’s back

Baby, what was that? Lorde must’ve made a deal with the Gods for The Met Gala, as she defied gravity with a floating bra, seriously, how on earth did she manage to keep it stuck? The singer joined the Thom Browne army, as she showed off her back, because any it-girl knows your back is the ultimate accessory.
Anok Yai’s Grills

Anok Yai knows how to deliver a Met Gala look, the model has been turning heads since 2019 on the carpets, and now she’s turned to Thom Browne for this year’s occasion, in a deconstructed, glitzy gown. But the star of the show, was none other than her grin full of grill, which took inspiration from her two little brothers, who both loved grills when they were kids. It’s intimate, but also cool AF.
Lauryn Hill’s umbrella and Kelly bag

Making her Met Gala debut, and her first red carpet in over a year, Lauryn Hill took to the blue carpet in a buttermilk yellow number, accompanied by a tailing train, a matching umbrella, and, a turquoise Kelly Birkin bag.
Janelle Monae’s monocle

Leave it to Janelle Monae to deliver a full on look at the Met. Made by New York-based designer Cameron Hughes, the singer-songwriter donned a custom monocle hanging below her Thom Browne hat. And, yes, before anybody asks, the monocle works.
Emma Chamberlain’s glasses

Office siren meets dandyism: Emma Chamberlain is no stranger to a Met carpet at this point, as she’s become a regular reporter for Vogue, and so the influencer-turned-fashion-girl-turned-interviewer knows how to take a theme, and not only execute it, but make it her own. Donning a pair of vintage glasses from eBay, Chamberlain’s Courrèges look was complete.
Bad Bunny’s straw hat

Thanks to Prada, Bad Bunny harked to his Puerto Rican roots for his dandyism offering, in a sea of brown, he wore a woven hat that echoed the pava – a traditional straw hat made from leaves of the Puerto Rican had palm. Amongst this, the rapper, who is gearing up for his No Me Quiero Ir De Aqui tour, also donned a leather bag, and a dashing pair of sparkling gloves.
