Jennifer Lawrence made a return to the spotlight, and Cannes Film Festival—her first since 2023—for the premiere of Die, My Love on Saturday evening.
And with such a cinematic occasion, Dior Haute Couture was the natural choice. She wore an off-white silk taffeta gown inspired by the 1949 Poulenc collection by Christian Dior—an iconic, ultra-romantic silhouette from the house’s history books.
There’s no denying the historical weight of this look. It’s romantic, sculptural, and rich in couture lineage. But when it comes to the overall impact? I’m not swept off my feet.
The black sandals feel like an afterthought—completely out of sync with the dreaminess of the dress. Referring back to the original design, the daintiness came from the shorter pleated front panel, which gave it a lightness and charm. I understand why they extended the length for a red carpet moment, but if you’re going to go long, then go long. In this case, it needed just a few more inches to fully commit and keep those jarring shoes out of sight.
I think I let my own excitement over Jennifer’s return build this up to be a grand comeback. But the reality? It’s just… fine. Not bad, not brilliant—just fine. A soft re-entry, rather than a show-stopping return to the Croisette.
