‘Eddington’ Cannes Film Festival Premiere Alba Rohrwacher Valentino Spring 2025 Haute Couture

The Eddington Cannes Film Festival premiere gave us an exciting lineup of fashion moments from women who weren’t afraid to get a little theatrical—or, in some cases, refreshingly restrained. With jury members leaning into tailoring, models dabbling in vintage Couture, here is the red carpet roundup.

frills with intention

Alba Rohrwacher has officially exited her quiet-luxury cocoon and stepped back into her flair era, and I am here for it. Wearing a Valentino Spring 2025 Haute Couture look by Alessandro Michele, Alba opted for something that felt romantic, nostalgic, and just a little bit playful. While it wasn’t an all-out maximalist moment, the frills and bows were pure Michele. The entire look had a vintage dreaminess to it—whimsical, but grown-up.

Who says a suit can’t have a laissez-faire attitude?

Juliette Binoche took the tailoring for a spin in an oversized white Armani suit that felt so breezy. I loved the oversized silhouette that didn’t drown her. The matching white tie was the cherry on top, keeping things tonal and a little unexpected. If there were ever such a thing as an informal power suit, this would be it. And Juliette wore it with the kind of quiet confidence that’s impossible to fake. Her Cannes style streak continues to impress.

Déjà Dress

Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu rocked a strapless Schiaparelli Fall 2024 Haute Couture dress, paired with Pomellato jewels — a look first debuted by Danielle Deadwyler at The Piano Lesson premiere in LA. Both ladies stepped out in the runway shoes, but Philippine said “non, merci” to the opera gloves.

Some pulls, but all poise

Cindy Bruna wore Jean Paul Gaultier Fall 2024 Haute Couture look by Nicolas Di Felice, and while I can’t pretend the skirt pulls weren’t slightly distracting—this is couture, after all—it doesn’t take away from how statuesque and serene she looked. The architectural silhouette balanced beautifully with the silk skirt can’t be overlooked. De Beers jewels completed her look.

So Refreshing

Alessandra Ambrosio surprised me—in a good way—in a 1987 Balmain Haute Couture gown. It was elegant without being predictable, with pleats and flounces on the skirt ensuring this didn’t fade into the backdrop of the men in suits behind her. This was a welcome departure from her usual Zuhair Murad-style formula. The Fortezza choker and matching earrings from Pomellato’s High Jewellery collection gave the look a vintage richness that pulled everything together.

Punk princess realness

Araya A. Hargate delivered one of the more unexpected looks of the night in a white custom Sirivannavari gown. The leather, grommet, and lace-up bodice had a gritty energy, which was cleverly softened by the flowing tulle skirt. It was an intriguing contrast that worked surprisingly well, giving her a modern warrior-princess vibe. Boucheron jewels brought the high glamour.

Not Chanel, but close enough to fool you

Marina Ruy Barbosa wore a Richard Quinn Fall 2025 embellished tulle gown that had more than a little Chanel energy. The delicate beading, sheer fabric, and flower detail on the bodice could easily have walked out of a Chanel Couture collection, but the Quinn twist gave it a slightly edgier feel. It was soft, feminine, and polished without being fussy.

From reworked vintage, contemporary couture, or the power of a perfectly tailored suit, we had so much range at this premiere.
