Kristen Stewart made her highly anticipated directorial debut at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival this afternoon with The Chronology of Water, and if you thought this new chapter would come with a complete style overhaul—you’re half right.
Because rather than leaning further into the grunge aesthetic that many—including myself—had expected in a “my film, my rules” kind of way, Kristen went in a completely different direction, tapping into her most romantic, hyper-feminine era to date in a look that could only be described as soft-core Chanel fantasy.
Wearing a pink tweed short set from the Chanel Fall 2025 collection—topped with a tulle blouse embroidered with flounces and strass, and a flowing skirt that brought a new kind of drama—Kristen surprised me in the best possible way.

This is Chanel through the lens of a woman who’s confident in her contradictions: tough and tender, sweet but sharp. The classic pink Chanel shoes and the Bouton de Camélia choker gave the look a refined elegance, but it was her pink-tinted blonde updo that kept one foot firmly planted in the rebellious, rule-breaking territory she’s always called home.

It’s soft girl energy with a spiky edge, and I can’t get enough of it.
