Yes, Balenciaga isn’t my favourite on a good day, but with today’s announcement that Pierpaolo will take the reins come July 10, there’s light at the end of the distressed denim tunnel. Until then, we’re stuck with one month and three weeks of Demna’s deconstructed chaos—and this look was chaos.
Nicole wore a grungy, oversized ensemble from Balenciaga’s Fall 2025 collection that featured faded, distressed black jeans. For someone who can do elegance in her sleep, this look felt unnecessarily edgy and underwhelming. I get that she’s playing with fashion more than ever, and that’s usually exciting—but this grunge aesthetic feels better suited to Kim Kardashian, not Nicole Kidman at a high-profile Cannes event.
She’s deserves more than a pair of jeans that look like they have been dragged through a back alley. Here’s hoping her next appearance is something worthy of her legacy—and Piccioli’s new chapter at Balenciaga delivers a much-needed refresh.
