Kate Hudson Wore Greta Constantine To The 2025 Newport Beach TV Fest black velvet dress.

Kate Hudson picked up the TV Performance of the Year Award at the inaugural Newport Beach TV Festival for Running Point, but her red carpet moment felt a little out of step with the season.

Wearing a black velvet high-neck, long-sleeved gown with structured shoulders from Greta Constantine’s Fall 2025 collection, she looked statuesque, yes—but also surprisingly wintery. The craftsmanship is there, and the silhouette is sharp, but velvet and June rarely go hand in hand. Had this been October through January, I might have been more forgiving, but with summer arriving in 15 days, this is so out of sync.

Kate has always been radiant in colour, which is why black—especially in velvet—often feels like it mutes her natural glow.

I also can’t make sense of the white seashell bag. It’s whimsical, sure, but it doesn’t feel aligned with the mood of the dress and looks like it would be a nightmare to carry all evening. I would’ve gladly welcomed the return of her Spring 2012 Chanel seashell bag here.
