Kerry Washington was one of the guest presenters at the 2025 BET Awards, held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, and she showed up in a look that was undeniably beautiful — but also, undeniably safe.
Wearing an Oscar de la Renta abstract butterfly print bustier dress from the Pre-Fall 2025 collection, Kerry looked lovely. The styling was in complete harmony with the dress’s dainty, feminine vibe: a Jacob & Co. diamond rivière necklace, diamond ring, and studs, finished off with a pair of classic black peep-toe heels.
But here’s the thing: much like her appearance at the Peabody Awards, this felt more ladies who lunch or BAFTAs Tea Party than BET Awards.
To be clear, no one’s asking her to show up in a sheer panelled gown or something slashed to the hip — but a little edge wouldn’t have hurt. And she’s done it before — remember the sharp, modern Altuzarra look at the 2020 Golden Globes? Kerry knows how to switch gears. This just wasn’t one of those nights.
However, when I looked back on her previous BET Awards appearance — her 2014 look was a strapless floral print dress from Dolce & Gabbana — I suppose this Oscar de la Renta look tracks.
