Miley Cyrus made a guest appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where she chatted about receiving a pep talk from Lorne Michaels ahead of SNL50: The Anniversary Special, got some surprising career advice from Harrison Ford about her album Something Beautiful, and topped it all off by teaching Jimmy how to do her Easy Lover choreography.
Miley wore a Thierry Mugler Fall/Winter 1998 ready-to-wear black satin dress, and it was every bit as unapologetically 90s as you’d expect. The halter neck, the cut-out at the bust, the exaggerated velvet-trimmed hip pockets—it had all the hallmarks of vintage Mugler’s sculptural drama, toned down just enough for late-night TV.
Yes, the fabric is a bit unforgiving (satin rarely gives you a break), but the style, the energy, the attitude—it all feels very Miley. The runway crepe version without the print? That’s the one I could see on Vanessa Kirby or Elizabeth Debicki. But on Miley, the satin version has a bit more of a rebellious spirit, so it just works so well for her.
