Ashley Olsen and Jennifer Lawrence are on the same sartorial page—and I’m not talking about J.Law’s fixation on The Row.
On September 18, Lawrence transitioned her summer sandals and baggy jeans into fall by adding a luxe fur stole, keeping her toes free and shoulders warm on a night out in New York. The outfit itself might sound easy to replicate but requires a nonchalant attitude and high dose of confidence to pull off, not to mention a fair amount of disposable income.
Of course, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are practically the blue print for Rich Millennial Casual, which is probably why one Glamour editor noted that Lawrence was exuding “big Olsen vibes” on Slack. Little did she know, Ashley would prove her point the very next day.

After breaking out a rare pair of jeans for a joint appearance with her sister during New York Fashion Week, Ashley doubled-down on straight-leg denim for a solo outing on September 19. In photos shared by People, the 39-year-old fashion designer was captured going full Olsen Twin Fall in an oversized navy sweater and one of her signature giant scarves.
So, what does this look have in common with Jennifer Lawrence’s blasé take on the fur shawl? Aside from their matching croc bags by The Row, they both invoked counterintuitive styling when it came down to their footwear. For her part, Ashley Olsen contrasted her cozy layers with a chic take on shower shoes. Specifically, she seemed to finish her look with a pair of her brand’s $620 rubber slides. You can see the photos here.
The main cool factor of both looks comes directly from the juxtaposition of warm fall accessories with summer’s most casual footwear. It’s nearly impossible to fake Jennifer Lawrence or Ashley Olsen’s enigmatic auras, but you can certainly try mixing your flip flops into your fall shoe rotation and see how that goes.
