Elle Fanning has been hitting the film festival circuit and in the process giving us some major style inspiration for our fall and winter closets.

The actor was at Telluride Film Festival to promote her next project, Sentimental Courage by Danish director Joachim Trier. And as at most film festivals, that involves several events and photo opportunities that require comfortable but elevated styling. Fanning is a pro at this type of dressing, whether she’s at a film festival or not, but we couldn’t help but notice that she chose three perfectly minimalist looks that happen to be in line with some of the most anticipated pants trends for the upcoming season.

Let’s take a closer look, shall we?

Brown pants

This season, brown is the new black. It might seem so basic that it’s hardly a trend on the surface, but the rich neutral color has totally dominated our shoes, our bags, and of course our pants. Fanning clearly understands the assignment and styled her corduroy trousers from The Row with a taupe cashmere sweater (also from the Olsen sisters’ brand) with a shirt peeking out from underneath and a pair of comfortable loafers on her feet. A timeless look that manages to be on trend too.

Black straight-leg pants

This timeless, minimalist basic—that is, tailored black pants with a straight or “cigarette” leg—is also back in a big way for fall. Elle Fanning went for a two-tone look and paired her black tailored pants, impeccable in their cut, with a long jacket in simple lines to match. A white T-shirt and white pointed-toe pumps give the perfect contrast with little effort. The look is effortless elegance that would work just as well at the office or to dinner with friends.
