It feels like all the pop girls were tapping into nostalgia at the 2025 MTV VMAs, and Tyla wasn’t about to be left out.
Known for her love of digging through the archives, she turned up in Chanel Spring 1993 ivory corset-style top Karl Lagerfeld sent down the runway with trousers. But Tyla it as a dress, and she styled it that way.

Pairing it with black booty shorts was the smartest move she could’ve made. It kept the look sharp and wearable while leaning into the kind of fearless energy the VMAs thrive on. Christian Louboutin black Kate pumps and Pandora Talisman jewelry tied everything together, echoing the original runway styling.

Chanel Spring 1993 is one of those collections that perfectly captures the house’s playful, body-conscious edge of that era, so it’s no surprise Tyla gravitated toward it. She gave it a modern twist, but the DNA of the original look was still very much there.
I know many will say this was too short, but the VMAs are one of those rare events where “too short” doesn’t really apply. Between her legs for days, her confidence, and the energy she radiated selling it on the carpet, Tyla sold this look to me.

It was daring, unapologetic, and completely in tune with what this red carpet is supposed to be about.
