Alessandro Michele dressed three celebrities for the 2025 Gotham Film Awards on Monday, and it was fascinating to see how differently each person carried his theatrical Valentino universe.
Flamingo Ruffle Drama
I’ve been wrestling with Amanda Seyfried’s red carpet direction lately, simply because the stop-start nature of her looks hasn’t allowed a clear narrative to form. But this Valentino Spring 2026 gown feels like we might be back on track. The black column silhouette is simple, while the sculpted coral ruffle adds just enough personality. The contrast works because it sharpens her naturally soft aesthetic. This is the first time in a while where it feels like Amanda and the gown are in agreement — and I’m choosing to be optimistic that this is the beginning of a clearer red carpet arc.

Pink Satin Puzzle
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed Alexander Skarsgård’s red carpet experimentation this year — he’s had fun, pushed beyond the usual minimalist menswear rut, and given us variety. That said, this custom Valentino look stops short of coming together for me. The idea is there, but the yellow tie with the pink satin blazer feels like two competing concepts when he only needed one. I could live with the pink blazer. I could live with the yellow tie. Together, they feel like they’re wrestling for the spotlight. Still, the willingness to take risks is something I’ll never discourage.

Style With Personality
Andrew Scott’s Valentino Fall 2025 satin suit, on the other hand, lands squarely in his sweet spot. A black satin suit is not usually his lane — he tends to gravitate toward pieces with a bit more colour — but the colourful floral tie injects just the right dose of Andrew-ness into the ensemble. It softens the formality, adds charm, and reminds us that even when he’s in something more traditional, he’s going to do it on his terms.
