Sigourney Weaver joined her co-star Zoe Saldana for the world premiere of Avatar: Fire and Ash in LA on Monday, and I’ll admit — I wasn’t expecting this direction from her.
I’ve always admired Sigourney’s no-fuss, clean-lined, effortlessly elevated tailoring. She knows what works for her, and she rarely strays from that lane. But this custom Valentino look by Alessandro Michele leans into a more theatrical, almost character-driven mood that doesn’t quite land for me.
The icy blue jacket is beautifully made — no surprise there — but the combination of the sequinned trim and that dangling polka-dot “tie” instantly pulled my mind to “high-fashion bellhop.” It’s beautifully constructed, yes, but visually busy in a way that fights against Sigourney’s naturally refined aesthetic.

And that polka-dot tie detail… I simply don’t understand it. It doesn’t add anything; it just sits there, distracting from the tailoring underneath. If anything, removing it would’ve given the look a cleaner, sharper finish that feels more aligned with her.
Sigourney shines brightest when she leans into confident simplicity, and while I appreciate the idea of experimenting on a big premiere night, this particular experiment didn’t quite find its rhythm.
Valentino Garavani shoes completed the look.
