Thandiwe Newton made a return to the red carpet for the LA premiere of Columbia Pictures’ Anaconda, and I have just one question: who thought this was a good idea?

We often hear that women as beautiful as Thandiwe can wear anything, but that phrase gets dangerously misused. This Wiederhoeft Spring 2026 look is so bad. Instead of enhancing her elegance or leaning into modern red carpet dressing, this outfit veers into costume territory. Not theatrical in a fun way, just oddly antiquated. She looks like railroad tycoon’s wife attending a town-founding gala.

The corset, in isolation, could have worked. With a cleaner skirt, sharper tailoring, and thoughtful styling, it might have been salvageable. But the skirt is where everything collapses. The buttoned front with frayed edges looks unfinished, and that dropped waist belt drag it firmly into the past—and not in a good archival sense.

What makes this especially disappointing is knowing what Thandiwe can do on a red carpet when styling aligns with her presence. This look feels dated, heavy, and completely disconnected from everything I know about her style. My heart genuinely sank when I saw it.

Jewellery from Gabriel & Co., L’Atelier Nawbar, Octavia Elizabeth, and Fiametta completed the look, but even beautiful jewels couldn’t rescue an outfit that never stood a chance.
