When Amanda Seyfried arrived at the 2026 Astra Film Awards, my immediate reaction was “here we go again.”
Although she was wearing a dress from the SHUSHU/TONG Spring 2024 collection, my mind went straight back to the Richard Quinn look she wore to the October 2025 London Film Festival screening of The Testament of Ann Lee. The similarities are hard to ignore. The colourway is the same, and the silhouette follows the same outline.
Amanda’s recent red carpet choices feel like they are tied to the historical themes of her current film. On paper, this makes sense. In practice, it has yet to click. These restrained, period influenced silhouettes feel imposed rather than natural on her, and this dress is no exception.
Even without the context of her past looks, this piece struggles on its own. The proportions do not flatter her frame, and the seam at the waist disrupts the line of the skirt. That construction issue has a knock on effect, leaving the overall shape feeling awkward.
I am usually fully on board with thematic dressing. I embraced the Barbie era and stayed invested throughout Wicked. This, however, feels like a misread of Amanda’s strengths. My hope is that this is not the template for the rest of awards season.
