I thought 2026 was going to be the season of new beginnings for Ariana Grande, but the 2026 AFI Awards felt like a return to old habits rather than a step forward.
I have really enjoyed Law Roach’s work with Ariana during the Wicked: For Good press tour, where her looks were more intriguing. That is why this appearance was such a letdown. She arrived wearing a vintage Vivienne Westwood dress that brought back memories of the skin tone gowns from the first Wicked press tour, a phase many of us assumed was behind her.
The issue is not just the colour, although it does little to lift the look. The dress itself feels dated and somewhat unflattering, offering nothing that complements Ariana’s current image or the momentum she has been building. The silhouette lacks impact, and the overall effect feels stale rather than nostalgic.
Archives exist for a reason, and not every piece deserves a second outing. This was one of those moments where looking back did Ariana no favours.
