Reproductive rights is one of the biggest hot button issues of the 2024 presidential election, so you might be surprised to learn how Melania Trump reportedly feels about abortion.

In her upcoming memoir, according to the Guardian, Melania Trump firmly defends abortion rights, saying it’s something she’s believed in all her life. “It is imperative to guarantee that women have autonomy in deciding their preference of having children, based on their own convictions, free from any intervention or pressure from the government,” she writes.

In her book, titled Melania, the former first lady continues, “Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body? A woman’s fundamental right of individual liberty, to her own life, grants her the authority to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes. Restricting a woman’s right to choose whether to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is the same as denying her control over her own body. I have carried this belief with me throughout my entire adult life.”

We should note, Glamour has not received an advance copy of the book, which is scheduled for release on October 8, and so cannot independently confirm this passage.

While Donald Trump’s position on abortion could be read as wishy-washy at best, his running mate, JD Vance, has called for a national abortion ban in the past. This would be Melania Trump’s biggest public divergence from her husband’s political positions since he first started running for president in 2016.
