Want to know what the coolest girls you know will be wearing next fall? Take a look at Isabel Marant’s Fall 2022 ready-to-wear collection.
Isabel Marant had the usually quiet Palais Royal rocking on Thursday for her Fall 2022 presentation. Backed by the alt-rock soundtrack of New York-based band Blonde Redhead, Marant fully dialed into the cool-girl aesthetic for her Fall 2022 ready-to-wear show at Paris Fashion Week.
Marrying her usual bohemian style with on-trend pieces for Fall, the new collection features a mixture of elevated basics, Y2K-inspired denim looks, and ‘80s disco dresses. Raw fabrics like nylon and leather were muted by sequins and fringe details, making this year’s collection cooler and more effortless than last Fall’s futuristic, otherworldly show.
Staying true to her roots, Marant’s collection is based in earthy tones, with neon orange and metallic blue standing out amongst sandy beige and black. Patterns drawn from Persian carpets give the collection a uniquely Parisian twist, and fluffy sweater dresses and worn-in sweatshirts provide an air of comfort.
Amidst ongoing rumors of a sale, Marant kept her head down and created a collection full of trendy pieces for the modern it girl. Leather overalls sported by Bella Hadid will surely be a trend come Fall, as will the collection of baggy, cargo-esque pants. Thigh-high boots paired with mini dresses give the collection a defining boost of rock-glam, and oversized jackets and shearling vests evoked images of Marant’s looks in the ‘90s.
Other nods to decades prior include the sequin disco minidress, and a whole experimentation with denim that exudes early 2000’s energy. Acid-wash is the shade of choice for Marant, who created a perfectly paired denim bomber to go with baggy, straight-leg jeans. Black jeans get their moment, too. Designed for the elusive, indie-punk cool girl, Marant says: “At a determined pace, this girl walks through town in her multi-pocket jeans, curling up in a duvet-like bomber jacket, a tight mohair sweater or a suede tunic shirt.” Another element of the Y2K inspiration comes in the form of crushed velvet and strategic cut-outs in dresses and tops.
Overall, Marant hit the nail on the head with of-the-moment, seasonal pieces sure to be best-sellers come Fall. And by weaving in basics and more classic looks, she also assured that the collection has an element of timelessness, and is not too bogged down by ever-evolving trends.
