Because diamonds will always bring a guaranteed smile.
A coming of age is always a call for celebration–and Smiley feels the exact same way. 😁
Celebrating its 50th birthday this year, the legendary emoticon is making sure the world joins in on the fun, including some of your favorite fashion, tech, and art brands. Having tapped over 50 of the biggest names in the world, a standout contender in one of the many creatives who are helping spread happiness through their respective houses is Messika. A joaillerie collection like none other before, Valérie Messika, founder of famed jewelry giant Messika gets in on the action with a range of smiley-themed offerings, all set in the ultra-luxurious craftsmanship that sets the brand apart.
Having been created back in 1972 by French journalist Franklin Loufrani with the now-iconic column Prenez le temps de sourire! (Take the time to smile!), the simple Smiley face grew up to be an instantly recognizable face, bringing people from all over together for a sense of unity. From its widespread use back in the 1990s to the present day, all thanks to Franklin’s son Nicolas who took the helm to help Smiley reach even bigger scales, (ahem–emoticons, anyone?), Smiley continues to unite the world for ages to come and reminds us all to look on the happy side of life.
Reinterpreted through the clever and endlessly exquisite use of yellow diamonds, the collaboration comes to full dazzling fruition through three standout pieces. The ‘My Move’ bracelet, crafted in luxe black rubber with smiley and pave diamond motifs, the small ‘Lucky Move’ pendant necklace which sees a blinged-out smiley, delicate and impactful enough for everyday use, and finally the exceptional XXL ‘Lucky Move’ necklace which is also presented as the world’s most expensive Smiley with a laughing face in pave settings of several hundred yellow diamonds and white diamonds, coming to a total of 7.90 carats.
With the pieces embodying the mischievous remix of Smiley’s face, created by globally renowned artist Andre Saraiva, Messika’s latest drop was certainly a task like no other for the tastemaker. “Like many people, I have always had a loving attachment to this motif, a strong symbol of pop culture. It conveys so many values and principles in which I believe, including an ever-positive spirit, a smile, and a step back” says Valérie Messika. “I was truly delighted to be one of the fifty guests invited by The Smiley Company. The overall exercise was a fun task, which doesn’t detract from the technicality of the jewelry. I’m confident that the project will deliver what everyone desires, positivity!”
The special collaboration will become available at the New York City boutique on April 10th.
