I take a skin-first approach with my beauty routine, and over the years I’ve developed a soft spot for SPF-infused products. Not all make it onto my top shelf for daily use, but the Tatcha Silk Sunscreen immediately did, thanks to its ability to deliver the ultimate dewy glow and SPF 50 protection.
It’s housed in a little purple bottle (that you need to shake well before squeezing out the product) with a shape that’s different from any of the other Tatcha products I’ve tried, which typically come in glass jars, like The Essence, or in tall, slender tubes, like The Rice Wash. Rose Sparacio, VP of product innovation at Tatcha, explains that this design choice was intentional: “We wanted the bottle to easily fit in your purse ord even your back pocket, so you can take it with you anywhere.”
Design aside, what stood out to me when I first applied the product was the color—it has a beige shade to it, almost as if it were a tinted moisturizer—and a supremely lightweight texture. The product goes on sheer, though, absorbs quickly, and leaves zero white cast on skin, making it blendable for even deeper skin tones. In addition to the smooth application, you get this kind of lit-from-within glow that’s unlike any other SPF product I’ve tried, which normally just sits on top of skin because of a thicker, creamier texture. My skin also feels super hydrated with the Tatcha Silk Sunscreen, thanks to the addition of calming niacinamide and hyaluronic acid, which is what gives skin that dewy look.
Sparacio says that this is because “the new Silk Sunscreen is fully mineral, with a liquid texture for a radiant, dewy finish.” The brand’s established product, the Silken Pore Perfecting Sunscreen, is a mineral and chemical SPF, “with more of a cream texture and a matte finish.” Since I have dry skin, I’m always looking for skin-care products that prioritize hydration and a dewy finish in lieu of those that are more matte.
