Red Table Talk has returned for the first time since Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars, but Jada Pinkett Smith is not discussing the controversy just yet.
Pinkett Smith has been relatively silent on the subject since her husband struck the awards-show presenter over a joke about her shaved head (the Girls Trip actor has been very vocal about her struggles with alopecia). On March 29, she shared a simple graphic on Instagram, which read, “This is a season for healing, and I’m here for it.”
Pinkett Smith echoed this sentiment during the fifth-season premiere of the Facebook Watch series. Before jumping into an interview with Janelle Monáe, Red Table Talk opened with a message to viewers. “Considering all that has happened in the last few weeks, the Smith family has been focusing on deep healing,” the statement said. “Some of the discoveries around our healing will be shared at the table when the time calls.”
In a second slide, Jada Pinkett Smith continued, “Until then…The Table will continue offering itself to powerful, inspiring, and healing testimonies like that of our incredibly impressive first guest. Thanks for joining us.”
