On April 16, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry walked into the Invictus Games opening ceremony holding hands, and the night only got sweeter from there.
After a day of off-roading competitions and friendly races, the couple spent the night celebrating the servicemen participating in this year’s event in The Hague, Netherlands. Markle hit the yellow carpet wearing an elegant off-the-shoulder white top and navy trousers, accessorizing the look with a simple gold necklace and her hair pulled back in a low bun. Hand-in-hand with his wife, Prince Harry looked cool and collected in a grey suit, forgoing a tie in favor of an open collar.
During the ceremony, the Duchess of Sussex took the stage to introduce her “incredible” husband, who founded the event back in 2014 to honor wounded veterans and service members. While thanking this year’s participants, Markle also took a moment to pay tribute to the team from Ukraine. “For each team, my husband and I both recognize it’s been a lot to get here, both physically and emotionally. Not least of which for the Ukraine team, who we are all standing with,” she said, adding the shoutout, “Slava Ukrani!”
After giving Markle a kiss in front of the crowd, the Duke of Sussex took over to share a few words about the spirit of the games—and talk a little bit bout his two-year-old son, Archie. “To be role models, or the role models that each of you are, takes strength and it takes courage,” he told the crowd, per People. “When I talk to my son Archie about what he wants to be when he grows up, some days it’s an astronaut, other days it’s a pilot — a helicopter pilot obviously — or Kwazii from Octonauts.”
