We all know that some weird shit is always bound to go down at the Met Gala. On the 2022 red carpet, that has come in the form of elaborate headpieces, an overwhelming amount of black attire for a white-tie event, and some very funky hairstyles — that especially includes that of Alicia Keys.
Keys walked the red carpet on May 2 in a black gown, completed by a cape bedazzled with the New York City skyline (how fitting for the singer that wrote the concrete-jungle-wet-dream-tomato song). When I first caught a glance at her from the front, all I thought was: stunning. Her baby hairs were swooped and looped to perfection and bedazzled with some very tiny gems. Her winged eyeliner was sharper than the spikes on the Statue of Liberty’s crown. Her skin was perfect. When is it not?
Then I caught a look at her long braid from the side and the back, and my bewilderment at her beauty became bewilderment at… whatever is in her hair. As you’ll see in the photo below, Keys’s braid is — I don’t even know what word to use here. Woven? — woven with something I’m finding very hard to describe. It’s like a black and silver ribbon… made out of CDs… bedazzled CDs.
