Mahmood and Blanco, who won the 72nd Festival di Sanremo with their song ‘Brividi,’ will be representing Italy at the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday May 14 on home soil in Turin.
Both took to the red carpet for the Eurovision opening ceremony of the competition in Italy on Sunday (May 8), which saw Mahmood stand out in this Willy Chavarria Spring 2022 look.
The designer intends for his clothes to be empowering and expressive in its approach to silhouette and fabrication.
In this case the lavender high-waisted, cinched-in, box-pleated chinos with the outsize proportions of ball skirts; no doubt helps expand countless people’s perception of how men and women “should” dress.
From the runway model it appears that the chinos were intended to sit very high on the waist, but it wasn’t practical for Mahmood to carry this piece down the red carpet, so he opted for the low-rise approach, which left the piece wet by the rain soaked turquoise carpet.
Despite not loving Jessica Biel’s wide leg trousers from her ‘Candy’ premiere, I did find myself enjoying this outing.
Especially with the oversized double-breasted jacket.
Blanco was clearly on the same page as Mahmood, as he rocked a Valentino Fall 2022 PP Pink Collection #BlackEdition look.
Compared to the spray-on jeans and nip-and-tuck tailoring made popular under the influence of Hedi Slimane at Dior Homme and later Saint Laurent, this is comfort as fashion.
Oversized has always been a statement, and just now it’s one that a lot of the fashion world is making at the moment.
What do you think of both looks?
Would you put either up for BDOTW?
