Memorial Day weekend is a great time to catch up on TV because outside of volume one of Stranger Things season four, it’s a bit slow right now. But things get exciting again toward the end of the week when the royals come together to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s platinum jubilee, marking 70 years of service for Her Majesty. The four-day event starts on Thursday, June 2 with Trooping the Colour (typically held on a Saturday). It’s the first time the event has been held in two years due to the pandemic, and no doubt the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge‘s youngest son, Prince Louis, will steal the show again.
Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and their kids, Archie and Lili, will also fly in for the festivities, but you won’t see them on the Buckingham Palace balcony. (That’s only reserved for working royals this year.) All the morning news shows will carry the highlights, and CBS will have special programming dedicated to the first day of celebrations. (By the way, if you are an avid royal watcher, I suggest subscribing to Britbox, which is a great place to watch some of the live events.)
In addition to the royal festivities, new seasons of The Boys, Physical, and P-Valley return this week. If you’re more in the mood for romance (on the water, no less), the Hallmark Channel has you covered with Hidden Gems, starring Beau Mirchoff and Hunter King, and Hulu has Bowen Yang’s delightful Fire Island. What else? Check out the list below.
