With prom, wedding and event season upon us, glam waves are making a comeback in a big way. After achieving the look, getting waves to stay is the most common challenge this season. Anna Peters, Sam Villa ArTeam Member and owner of  re:TREAT Color + Hair Design Studio  @annas_hair_retreat, says big beautiful waves are the most desired request among her clients. BUT, creating them requires a well thought out plan of what direction hair is going to fall and how to create a set that will support it to last all day. Keep reading to hear her top tips.

“I love working with the Sam Villa Artist Series 2-in-1 Marcel Iron and Wand because of the ability to transform it from a Marcel into a Wand, and because of the two different sizes available. I can pack two tools in my session kit or at my station, and have four tools at my fingertips, saving time and space!” she explains.

Get The Look: Voluminous Glam Waves

  1. Start with clean dry hair and spray Redken Guts 10 in at the base throughout the head.  Use a Sam Villa Signature Series 9 Row Finishing Brush, to direct roots straight up and blow-dry in that direction to create volume at the base and direction for hair to fall. Determine the part and blow dry to define it.
  2. Take horizontal 2” wide by 1.5” deep sections at the nape and spray with Redken Iron Shape 11 for heat protection and hold. Wrap hair around the Marcel Iron 1.5” in a horizontal position, make sure to place iron at the base of section and start curling, working ends in last. Once thoroughly heated, slide iron out and clip curl in place to cool using Sam Villa Dry Sectioning Clips to insure not to leave any hard lines from clip. Continue working with this size section, position and slide iron out the back of the head in a brick lay pattern until the crown and then switch to a 1” Marcel Iron for more volume at the top of head.  For sides, use the 1.5” iron to create curls in a horizontal pattern up each side, meeting at the part. Make sure that all curls are set and clipped on base for major volume.
  3. After entire head is curled, clipped to set, and cooled completely, remove clips one at a time and spray individual curls with Redken Fashion Works 12 and brush through with the Finishing Brush to create beautiful smooth waves and shine. Place curls working upwards and don’t be afraid to brush through them until desired result is achieved. The curl pattern will hold up because of the set, more brushing will result in softer waves.
