Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, Kate Middleton, and Prince William just made their first joint public appearance since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s final royal engagements in March 2020, but you wouldn’t know it by looking at the photos from Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee.
On June 2, the four-day festivities celebrating the Queen’s 70th year on the throne kicked off with the annual Trooping the Colour parade. Though Meghan, Harry, three-year-old Archie, and one-year-old Lilibet Diana have traveled to the U.K. as a family, they did not join the senior-level royals on the Buckingham Palace balcony for the event. Instead, a series of grainy photos of the couple watching from the sidelines were all that marked their attendance.
“After careful consideration, the queen has decided that this year’s traditional Trooping the Colour balcony appearance on Thursday 2nd of June will be limited to Her Majesty and those members of the royal family who are currently undertaking official public duties on behalf of the queen,” a palace spokesperson said in May, according to People.
On June 3, however, both couples were seen at the National Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral in London…just not together. Meghan Markle was photographed in head-to-toe white, wearing a belted coat from Dior’s haute couture spring-summer 2022 collection by Maria Grazia Chiuri and a Stephen Jones hat. She was all smiles holding hands with Prince Harry, who wore a pair of pinstripe trousers for the occasion.
Meanwhile, Kate Middleton also went for a monochromatic look in a canary yellow Emily Wickstead ensemble.
