We are just going to come right out and say it: so far the 2020’s don’t feel like they’re really working out for us, with all the socio-political divisiveness and worsening environmental conditions. It’s enough to make us start looking into the possibility of a time machine…or at least a virtual reality one.
Apparently Moschino gets it like we do. And Creative Director Jeremy Scott‘s wildly psychedelic new Resort 2023 Womenswear collection is just the trippy-dippy trip back in time we needed right now, a big, bold escape into the stylistic fabulosities of the ’60s and early ’70s, complete with the requisite peace signs and smiley faces. It frankly has us listening to ‘Incense and Peppermints’ on endless repeat, and mixing up repeated rounds of Pink Lady and Grasshopper cocktails.
Some of the retro signatures are instantly recognizable: polka-dot embroideries adorning maxi-dresses and long-legged trousers, floral “hot pants” shorts also featuring the adorable Moschino teddy bear, sexy sequined halters, boldly patterned crocheted sets, oversized flower petal specs, and our fave, a wide-collared, big-belted, bright yellow coat dress, which, paired with pink platforms, is just begging to board the next TWA flight to Swinging London.
The vividly shot and frankly utterly groovy campaign, starring models Alex Consani, Valentine, Briana Michelle, and Remington Williams, was the handiwork of Marcus Mam, who has become Moschino‘s number one go-to guy (we love loved his 2021 eyewear campaign for the brand, featuring Drag Race stars Symone + Gigi Goode). And while taking in the accompanying short film was an awesomely fun distraction from the decidedly depressing January 6th hearings flashing across our screens all week, we do highly recommend rocking these looks for real on your next trip to Capri or the Cote D’Azur.
