Meghan Markle and Prince Harry may or may not still be mid-feud with his famously stuffy royal family, but the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not so salty that they’d keep their one-year-old daughter Lilibet Diana from meeting her grandfather Prince Charles while they were in town. The Sussexes flew into the London with their two children to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee where, reportedly, Charles got to meet the youngest member of the family.

An anonymous royal source told People, “It was a fantastic visit. The prince was delighted to see his grandson and meet his granddaughter for the first time.” This insider added, “It was very special to have some time with [Archie]. He hadn’t met Lilibet, his granddaughter, and so to meet her for the first time was very emotional—it was a wonderful thing.” You know how granddads get.

It’s perhaps worth a reminder at this point that during that interview (you know the one), Meghan and Harry said that certain members of the royal family had openly fretted about the skin-color of her future child. Later, a tell-all book indicated that it was Charles who had asked the skin-tone question (via Page Six), which the Palace Denied.

While the family was officially in town for the Jubilee, they also celebrated Lilibet’s first birthday while in the U.K. According to the Sun, Harry and Meghan threw their baby girl an “informal” backyard birthday party at Frogmore Cottage, where they had cake and snacks and party games. The Sun‘s source also revealed that Lilibet Diana got to meet her great-grandmother the Queen on this visit, as well as some of her royal second-cousins.

William and Kate missed the festivities due to a prior Jubilee-related engagement, but we’re rooting for them to all get together eventually. A playdate with Prince Louis is bound to be a ball.
